Have you ever imagined a life of crime, intrigue, and … big showy musical numbers?

In March, the Marshall Civic Players will share just that in the musical rendition of Catch Me If You Can. Based on a true story, and a popular 2002 movie featuring Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio, this musical follows the story of Frank Abagnale Junior, a con artist who becomes a millionaire before the age of 21 by forging checks. Abagnale tells the story of successfully impersonating a pilot, doctor and lawyer, all while being chased around the country by a team of detectives.

Marshall Civic Player’s Catch Me If You Can performers strike a final pose at the end of a musical number.

Marshall Civic Players’ production of Catch Me If You Can is directed by Charlene Rucker out of Coldwater, Mich. Charlene has directed several shows with MCP in the past and is joined by Music Director Kathleen Warriner, of Marshall, and Producer Kristin Holbrook, also of Marshall.

Catch Me If You Can is full of big band style music, small jazz combos, some amazing ballads, funny one-liners and a storyline that seems so out there, it’s hard to believe it’s based on truth.

“The fact that this is based on a true story is insane,” says Andrew Troskey, who plays the young con artist. “It’s so farfetched and out there.”

But the story isn’t the only thing that feels ‘out there.’ The whole show takes on a larger than life persona that will keep audiences on their toes.

“Once Abagnale starts telling his story, it’s like a big 1960s variety TV show,” says Director Charlene Rucker. “He is trying to tell his story as bigger than life because he is bigger than life.”

Music Director Kathleen Warriner says the music in this show also plays a large role in how Abagnale tells his story. “The compositions in this show are clever and creative and play a strong part in telling the story.”

“What a fascinating person and story!” adds Rucker.

Whether you’re into comedy, mystery, romance or just love big musical numbers, this show is one you won’t want to miss.
